Tips to Make Our Hunt More Successful

  • in the United States, the period between 1850 and 1940 is particularly rich in information due to the way in which the Federal Census was structured.
  • nation of origin (points of departure before immigration to America) can be difficult to determine in the years prior to the opening of Ellis Island, New York.
  • Civil War service records are surprisingly plentiful and, if you suspect there may be a veteran of the war in your ancestry, please let me know.
  • photographs, although incredibly valuable, are rare.
  • the Catholic Church can be an excellent source of information due to its long history of meticulous record-keeping – please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any Catholic ancestors.
